Tunisia’s Spark and Egypt’s Flame: the Middle East is Rising – IPS.

Check out this perceptive article by Phyllis Bemis of the Institute for Policy Studies.  Phyllis relates the Egyptian uprising to the Middle East situation.  Another issue that will have to be on the Egyptian agenda no matter what the new government looks like is how to deliver desperately needed jobs, economic development, and social services without (re-)selling the country to the West.  Other nations in the region will surely face the same question.  The search for answers, I think, will put the issue of socialism (or at least a “mixed economy”) back on the list of relevant topics for discussion and action.
